Make a special Christmas craft!

Make a "just like Jesus bowl"

We hope you enjoy this Christmas idea from Laurel Kirchner, creator of Kids of Integrity. It'll help you maintain a little KOI momentum in December without adding extra stress to a super-busy season!

Christmas inspiration from Laurel:

Come December, most of us don’t have time to be organizing complex crafts or planning additional activities. Putting together a “just like Jesus bowl” or basket is a very simple way to keep a Christ-focus in your home this holiday season, and a great way to review the Kids of Integrity lessons you’ve been doing.

All you need is 15 minutes, a box of Christmas decorations, ribbon, gift tags, a pen and a bowl.

  • Make gift tags that feature Kids of Integrity character traits (i.e. patience, respect, contentedness, harmony, self-control).
  • Allow your children to select ornaments from your supply of Christmas decorations that remind them of these Christ-like qualities. For example, Winnie the Pooh might represent kindness, and a snowman, joy!
  • Attach your gift tags to the corresponding ornaments and place them in a basket or bowl.
  • Throughout the holiday season, when your family members notice someone else being kind, generous, respectful etc., they get to hang that ornament on the tree.
  • As the ornaments are hung on the tree, talk about how we are “just like Jesus” when His Holy Spirit lives in us and prompts us to act like Jesus.
  • Each child can have their own set of ornaments, or you can work from a universal basket.

Sprinkle truths from these Bible verses into your conversations:

1 John 2:5-6 “But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.”

1 John 3:23-24 “And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. Those who obey His commands live in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.”

1 John 4:10-11 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

1 John 4:12-13 “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”

1 John 4:15-16 “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in Him and He in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”

1 John 4:19-21 “We love because He first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And He has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
